Service Description
Explore the captivating art of beaded Japanese braiding in this beginner Kumihimo class! You’ll learn how to create beautiful cords using traditional methods practiced for centuries. Whether you want to make jewelry, keychains, or decorative items, this class will introduce you to the fundamentals of Kumihimo. You will learn how to set up the braiding disk, choose your materials, and weave intricate patterns, creating a braided keychain. No prior experience is needed—bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to craft something unique! Our instructor is Rebecca Heid, and she is passionate about fiber arts and loves sharing that passion with others. She has taught classes for the Chattanooga Fiber Arts Guild and will be teaching Kumihimo and Dorset Buttons at Scenic Stitches Fiber Fest and Birchwood Fiber Festival this spring. She instructs older preschoolers twice a week at LMPC’s Mother’s Day out program, where she introduces many crafts which encourage creativity, enhance motor skills, and boost self-esteem. These activities can also help kids develop concentration and patience . She also teaches the Nimble Thimble’s enrichment class on Monday evenings at Ingleside, incorporating various skills from Kumihimo to crochet. She finds it so rewarding to see their enthusiasm for these crafts!
