Kumihimo Braiding for Kids
Ages 7+! Make a Kumihimo bracelet!
Service Description
Explore the captivating art of Japanese braiding in this kids' Kumihimo class! Your child will learn how to create beautiful cords using traditional methods practiced for centuries. Whether they want to make jewelry, keychains, or decorative items, this class will introduce them to the fundamentals of Kumihimo. They will learn how to set up the braiding disk, choose their materials, and weave intricate patterns, creating a braided bracelet. No prior experience is needed—they only need to bring their enthusiasm and a willingness to craft something unique! Our instructor is Rebecca Heid, and she is passionate about fiber arts and loves sharing that passion with others. She has taught classes for the Chattanooga Fiber Arts Guild and will be teaching Kumihimo and Dorset Buttons at Scenic Stitches Fiber Fest and Birchwood Fiber Festival this spring. She instructs older preschoolers twice a week at LMPC’s Mother’s Day out program, where she introduces many crafts which encourage creativity, enhance motor skills, and boost self-esteem. These activities can also help kids develop concentration and patience . She also teaches the Nimble Thimble’s enrichment class on Monday evenings at Ingleside, incorporating various skills from Kumihimo to crochet. She finds it so rewarding to see their enthusiasm for these crafts!
