Service Description

Learn how to use your own sewing machine! Do you have a sewing machine languishing in your closet? Did you inherit your grandma’s machine? Even if your machine looks older than you, it may still be in great working order! This class is an opportunity to learn how to use it and care for it. We will go over the basic parts of every sewing machine, learn how to thread it, adjust tension to get the best quality stitching and learn about some basic care. Please bring your own machine, and don’t forget the plug and foot pedal! Fabric scraps to practice on will be provided, as well as thread. If you have a box of sewing tools, feel free to bring that and we can go over their various purposes. Instructor Evan Leggoe was taught by her mother, a professional costume designer designer, to sew at a young age. For the last 7 years she has been focused on garment sewing and now wears clothes she has made every day. You can check out her work on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/evanleggoe/?hl=en Her favorite machine is a 1961 Singer Slant-O-Matic, and she is a big proponent of using vintage patterns and materials. She has a background in fine art, and runs a floral design business called Thicket Creative.
