Learn to Spin Yarn!
Beginning Drop Spindle Workshop
Service Description
Discover the art of spinning your own yarn with a drop spindle! This beginner-friendly class will introduce you to the basics of fiber preparation, drafting, and spinning using a simple, portable spindle. No experience is necessary—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to learn. By the end of the class, you’ll have a small skein of hand-spun yarn and the skills to continue your spinning journey at home. All materials provided. Our instructor is Rebecca Heid, and she is passionate about fiber arts and loves sharing that passion with others. She has taught classes for the Chattanooga Fiber Arts Guild and Scenic Stitches Fiber Fest and will teach at Birchwood Fiber Festival this spring. She instructs older preschoolers twice a week at LMPC’s Mother’s Day out program, where she introduces many crafts which encourage creativity, enhance motor skills, and boost self-esteem. These activities can also help kids develop concentration and patience . She also teaches the Nimble Thimble’s enrichment class on Monday evenings at Ingleside, incorporating various skills from Kumihimo to crochet. She finds it so rewarding to see their enthusiasm for these crafts!
