Weaving for Kids
Ages 4-7!
Service Description
Weaving is a fun and creative activity and a valuable learning experience. It promotes fine motor skills, creativity, patience, and problem-solving abilities, all while providing a sense of accomplishment and self-expression. In this 2 hour class, we will introduce your child to the basics of warping and weaving on a simple cardboard loom using colorful ribbons and fabric strips. By the end of class, each child will have a unique ready-to-hang woven artwork! Our instructor is Rebecca Heid, and she is passionate about fiber arts and loves sharing that passion with others. She has taught classes for the Chattanooga Fiber Arts Guild and will be teaching Kumihimo and Dorset Buttons at Scenic Stitches Fiber Fest and Birchwood Fiber Festival this spring. She instructs older preschoolers twice a week at LMPC’s Mother’s Day out program, where she introduces many crafts which encourage creativity, enhance motor skills, and boost self-esteem. These activities can also help kids develop concentration and patience . She also teaches the Nimble Thimble’s enrichment class on Monday evenings at Ingleside, incorporating various skills from Kumihimo to crochet. She finds it so rewarding to see their enthusiasm for these crafts!
